On Responsible Stewardship
The Board of Trustees serves as the governing body of the Association and collectively exercises oversight, policy direction, and fiduciary responsibility/the stewards of the association. In performing these functions, the Board acts in the best interests of the entire alumni membership.
As with any governing body, representation that reflects both institutional experience and forward-looking perspective contributes to informed and balanced decision-making.
Senior Lakans provide continuity, historical insight, and institutional memory. At the same time, active and younger Lakans contribute operational relevance, adaptability, and innovative thinking essential in a rapidly evolving public safety profession and organizational environment.
Balanced governance benefits from the integration of:
- Institutional wisdom and strategic depth;
- Young and innovative thinking;
- Operational awareness and contemporary perspective; and
- Shared accountability across generations of Lakans.
Maintaining appropriate representation across batches supports:
- Continuity and stability in governance;
- Responsiveness to present and emerging organizational needs;
- Innovation in policies and programs; and
- Inclusive participation within the alumni community.
